Triple Crown for Pegasus after winning ORSCA T20 Sunday ……………………………………………............................ Pegasus surged to a comprehensive, 8-wicket win against Masters in the Elite Ontario Round-Arm Softball Cricket Association (ORSCA) T20 final on Sunday at the Emancipation Park, Brampton. Pegasus created history by lifting their third trophy this season having won the test format, the T10 and now the T20. Skipper Ryan Sookram won the toss on this occasion and invited Masters to bat first. They reached a moderate 177-6 from the 20-overs before Pegasus gleefully surpassed the target with a whopping 44 balls to spare. Their chase was led by a pugnacious, 32-ball 70 from Kandasammy Surujnarine and Sharaz Ramcharran with an equal, belligerent 62 not out. The two prospered in an enterprising, 82-run second-wicket stand to seal the deal after a solid, first-wicket partnership of 79 between the rampant Surujnarine and Ricardo Peters. Peters contributed a fiery 32 while Surujnarine struck 9 effortless sixes and a boundary. It was sixes galore in windy conditions as the other right-handed Ramcharran clobbered 8 sixes and a four during his 25-ball blitz. Earlier, Masters lost their inform batsman Rajkumar Budhram for 10 before his opening partner Azam Haniff and Riaz Kadir featured in an aggressive, 35-run second-wicket stand to help restore the innings. Kadir was also in flamboyant mood slamming 8 sixes to top-score with 62 while Haniff cleared the fence two times. Experienced batsman Kumar Dudnoth added 32 and 27 each from Lindon Persaud and Haniff. Omesh Persaud was the most outstanding bowler for Pegasus with 3-34 from three overs. Ramcharran, a former Guyana youth player, was voted as the player-of-the-match for his stunning display. He received a trophy. Kadir was the given one having being adjudged the Most Valuable Player for his knock. Both the winning and runners-up teams collected a trophy, too. All trophies were sponsored by Reshma Rama, a Realtor in Ontario. Rama was on hand to help with the presentation of the prizes and expressed her delight to support the competition. President of the ORSCA Mitch Bacchus thanked Rama and congratulated Pegasus after they emerged victorious in 2024. Pegasus dethroned Sunshine. Meanwhile, Sookram stated that his players were eager to win the championship again from the beginning. He attributed the success to hard-work and total team’s effort. For Sookram, it was essential that the side never lost the camaraderie. (Author: Ravendra Madholall) |
